Training
Courses offered and their resources are listed below. These include the common certificates and ratings.
If there is other training that you would like to pursue, please reach out.
Private Pilot (PPL)
This is the first certificate you get where you will learn how to fly a plane for fun. The FAA requires a minimum of 40 hours of flight time. Typically it will take longer, but it is dependent on the person. The process involves both ground and flight instruction. An online ground school is recommended to be completed before or simultaneously.
Instrument (IFR)
An instrument rating allows you to fly an airplane under instrument conditions and on an IFR flight plan. Training is usually begun after some time has been spent flying for fun after getting a PPL. The FAA requires 40 hours of instrument flight time and 50 hours of cross country flight time to be eligible.
Flight Review
A flight review covers a minimum of 1 hour of ground instruction and 1 hour of flight instruction. Every pilot is required to have a flight review within the past 2 years with some exceptions. It can be modified to include more training for pilots coming back after a break from flying.
Commercial (CPL)
A commercial certificate allows you to fly an airplane for hire. Training is begun after some time building has been completed. The FAA requires 250 hours of flight time for this certificate.
Instrument Proficiency Check
An IPC is completed after instrument currency has lapsed or as required by insurance or an employer. The IPC covers flight and ground instruction on the areas required in the instrument ACS. Training can be accomplished in one or multiple lessons depending on level of proficiency.
